I recently met up with a girl I've known for a while, thinking we were meeting as more than friends, but as it turned out, she thought we were just meeting as friends. Without going into specifics, I think the way I worded asking her out was very clear, though English is not her first language, so that may be the reason for the misunderstanding.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, we went for a drink, chatted for a couple of hours, then after we left the bar, I told her I liked her as more than a friend, but she said she just saw me as a friend.
This was frustrating, but I still take positives from it, especially as I was able to be honest about how I felt without nerves getting in the way. I think I generally did a lot of the right things, but was unlucky on this occasion. I think it's a case of persistence, optimism and reflecting and improving on my 'performance' (for want of a better term) from here.
