Girl gave the wrong number, how to proceed?

Hi all,

So I met this girl that works in a restaurant some months ago, we have a friend in common and i went there for lunch with him and she was working that day. At the time she had a bf. Now I saw her last week with my friend again in the restaurant and the vibe was different she was much more open and flirty so today i went there for lunch and asked her out. We had a good interaction, etc. But the number she gave lacks 1 digit.... so its useless. I am 99% sure this was a legitimate mistake. So now i may only see her in around 2 weeks if i go there for lunch again. We both wont be around for christmas, so we wouldnt be able to meet before these 2 weeks anyway. What do i do, ask my friend for her number and text her as nothing happened? Or it may look needy? If she have me the wrong num on purpose than i have nothing to lose, she isn't interested, if it was a mistake she is unaware of it. Or do i wait for 2 weeks and then go for lunch and casually mention the number didnt work?

wait until you see her again and make fun of her for giving you the wrong number. don’t get it from your friend. that’s what i’d do.

Good advice from NM. Definitely talk to her again the next time you see her - and tease her about the wrong number, maybe even show it to her. Then ask again - and maybe set plans in person too (you can tease her about that and the wrong number too).

Reason I'd do it that way is simple. If she really did do it accidentally, she'll just be annoyed you forgot her. But she would have gotten on with things. So you just show empathy and understanding of what she got up to rather than worrying, and then you reinvite her, so suddenly something she thought was a dead end was revived. Good news right?

Still in person, when I asked when she was free, she said after the exams (in5 days), wednesday, the day before the exams were over, i texted her with a teasy text about cheating on exams, no reply till today, Friday.

If I were you , I would have just asked your friend for her number and then text her something like , good thing we have a friend in common to give me the missing digit , and then just add that this is razi from the restaurant

Well I didn't want to give the impression that I am obsessed by having her number. I just casually asked it again as nothing happened and it's how I felt about it.

Interestingly, the guy who I was having lunch with in the restaurant where she works (this was like a month ago), when I started talking to the girl, (he is Italian and she is also Italian) He told me that that day she asked him in Italian if I was flirting with her, with me sitting right next to him, but I didn't get it at the time. Don't know what is that supposed to mean lol

What I do know is that she ignored my message

they play hard to get . There is joke about how Italian man have sex : 90% tongue and 10% dick haha . I guess this is the reason why women love Italian men .

i would follow up with another text , something along the lines : look , you seem like a really cool girl and I like a lot your accent and it would be great if we could grab a proper Italian espresso togheter, as I am planning a trip in Italy soon and would love to know more about what is worth visiting and what is media bullshit

Honestly, sometimes by "teasing" you shoot yourself in the foot. Maybe she failed one of her exams and 2 hours later she reads your text about cheating. Let's say she believes in personal integrity. And you implying in any sense that she would cheat might make her feel like you don't get her. So she breaks contact. I had this happen numerous times. Where the "tease" had some hidden assumption - which I believe every tease has.. an assumption that is supposedly spun to a fun direction. In like 95% of cases the girl does not get back. And I think there was an article years back, how you should cut down teasing if a girl likes you already. But that is just my personal experience. I woukd say simple "how are exams going, have you prepared well?" would be enough.

HOWEVER, that all being said, I have learned to be patient. And get busy with something else. If a girl does not text back, you can just wait. Maybe she is too busy, I do that a lot. Nowadays my response rate is like 2 days later on average because I am fairly busy. Some girls got back to me after a week or 10 days even. Sometimes I text them again in a week to check up on them. But I have questionable results with that. My texts probably have some needy subtext I would say. In this situation, I would text something like "Hello (name), I hope your exams went well. If the exam period is over, how about we go out for that coffee. When are you free next week?" - and by needy subtext I mean like the fact that I kinda keep track of her exams (as she told you when she will be more available).

To sum up. I agree with nexting and careful with too much teasing.

A no is better than not throwing a Hail Mary on the medium and long term if you really like the girl . Think about the lion , not all his hunts are a success ,but he still is the king of the Savannah

I will see her again this weekend, I'm going for lunch there with a friend. I will talk to her there, no mention of text she didnt answer. She can't not reply in person
