I need some advice on coffee shop operners. Spefically speaking when a girl is sitting alone by herself. I'm struggling on what to say as a opener to sit down and chat. Tonight I saw this attractive red head sitting alone and almost approached but then I noticed she had a book on the other seat. The thought was maybe she put it there to deter any man from approaching? So I didn't make a move. But now looking back at it I still should have tried. Any suggestions for a smooth transition here?

Walk up to her side, go direct, then ask if the seat in front of her is taken.

Usually, I only notice girls who are seated once I'm sitting down myself. If this is the case then I try to make eye contact and see how she reacts. Otherwise, I really like the ones Chase recommends in the article if you spot them while standing.
