I am thinking about becoming a teacher at a university or college.

Currently working in equity research,
Pay is good but work is draining my soul.

I don't like the work, so it affects my ability to complete it, nor I have been develope sufficient skills as well given the time period I have worked.

I will say I perform slightly below average.

If I was interested in the work or if money would have been a significant motivation. Maybe I am capable of being above average in it.

The aspect I hate about the work is being constantly updated about the work and being call and beck of clients as soon as some news or new information comes.

Now I have decided to switch careers.

I am thinking about teaching as I like being around people, talking and have average skill of teaching stuff, also, working in finance gives me subject expertise too.

Thinking of teaching finance in some university or college.

Just unsure about it, so wanted to hear thoughts of others.

I'm in start of my late 20s.

Can't see myself working hard enough to become a big businessman or something like that.

I like teaching too. Transitioned from a part time tutor to running a tutoring company.

I'd choose that over teaching in an establishment. As a personal preference, I prefer being my own boss and choose the students I work with. I don't mind the boring admin stuff that comes with running it as a business (not much tbh asides from the marketing, which is a fun game)

I suppose the main drawback is I don't get to be surrounded by hordes of hot girls as I would have been at a university.

But then again, dunno if I would do anything about it cuz I'm a big proponent of don't shit where you eat.

It will generally require a Doctoral degree. In many fields you will be expected to do research and obtain grants, which is difficult. However, access to young women is ready, just avoid ones who are in the classes you teach. I did it for one year as a Visiting Assistant Professor and enjoyed it. Adjunct Professors are paid little, although can be good if you have a day job. (Adjunct in finance would be fine.)

Can you tell more about it?

What subject do you teach?

What is idea of this tutoring company?

Do you teach yourself or have teachers who teach and you market their courses?

How has been this journey for you?

Were you ever in a corporate job or you started with this directly?

Used to teach Math, Economics and French.

I changed from 1 to 1 to 1 to many.

Recently turned it into a tutoring agency where I link up tutors and students. I take a referral fee.

I moved my classes online so I can travel more.

These days I teach Econ only cuz I enjoy it the most and French doesn't pay that much. Can't stand teaching Math anymore although I love the subject.

I've never been in an actual corporate job. I'm currently working full time in my dad's company until end of August before flying back to Asia. It's technically corporate but not really for me. I get some perks.

@empath

One more thing, almost forgot.

Gotta give credit where it's due:

I was part of a copywriting business mastermind and won a free coaching call with a guy named Alex Hormozi.

Using his book 100M Offers, coupled with the tailored advice he gave me, I set up the tutoring business.

Haven't touched base with him in a couple years. Dude's busy af and I don't think I can even reach him.

However, I just noticed he has a YouTube video outlining a very similar business model he explained to me on our call.

(checking the release date, I notice it aired a couple weeks after my call with him. I bet it must have served as inspo)

Here it is:

That, coupled with 100M Offers (IMO top 5 business books I've ever read) should be enough to get you off the ground.

His book 100M Leads helped me triple my student base.
