my theory is some girls send these little stickers and animations as a way to keep a guy on the line with minimal investment.

half the time i don't even know what the meaning is of these things. smiley face, sure. sad face, ok. cartoon cat rocking inside a half a watermelon? uhmmm ...

anyone familiar with this ... problem? what ways have you guys found to deal with it?

cheers

I would just ignore them, and continue on with the initial conversation. If that's her way of expressing herself then that's on her, but if she only uses emojis to communicate? It's a possibility that she's way to young for you.

she's definitely too young for me, there's no doubt about that

anyway, it's not one girl in particular, although it's not something i'm dealing with every day.
it seems some girls use it coz they got nothing to actually say. one girl, i asked her to use words, then just stopped talking to her when she continued with the emoji.
seems other might be using it as a tactic to deflect a slightly risque comment e.g

at 1 am she sends me a message telling me she can't sleep. i answer the next day " nice to know she's thinking about lao che when she can't sleep". then come the animations, i don't even know, like a cat in a thunderstorm or something.

a good date brings a smile to your lips... and hers

In this case it wasn't a bad thing, she was being nice. She wanted to reply, but didn't have much to say. However there was another JP girl who communicated with me purely through stickers / stamps, I didn't have GC training at that time but eventually came to conclusion she was either mentally retarded (a real possibility w this girl) or brushing me off. If it's a persistent behaviour, NEXT.
