How to deal with my cockblocking friend?

I usually hang out with a friend of mine every time I go out to clubs or bars. I've known him for a few years and he's cool to chill with but sometimes he turns into a douchebag and tries to social ladder climb me by talking shit when girls are around or trying to take my girl. I turn it right back at him but I think this type of behavior is stupid. What can I do to stop him from being such a douche? Should I just stop hanging out with him all together?

Get some new friends! Or tell the guy to stop being such an idiot(he might just have really bad social skills), friends are meant to help you.

What value is he offering to your life currently? If the answer is little or none, and he's impeding your growth, then just ditch him.

If he's offering value to your life in other ways, then keep him around and just don't hang out with him when girls are around.
