How to explain medical issues without seeming weak

Hey guys/lords,
So recently, a doctor told me to avoid all physical activity (even light swimming) because my kidneys need to heal up. I often find myself saying "no" to people when they ask me to do something. I was asked to go on a ride at our local fair today, and I had to say no. They always ask why and so until this point, I've tried just explaining the reasoning. That usually makes the person feel bad for me, thus weakening my appearance. At the fair, I just said it's a secret and smiled but it came of a little awkward and the person was suspicious in a negative way. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to say/do so I don't come off as pitiful of suspicious?

TnA,

With things like this, the trick is to have them focus on how positive you are about getting better and taking care of yourself for your own well-being. When you tell them things like this, it's best just to be extremely direct and tell them exactly what it is without seeming "down" about it. Remember, fundamentals still play a role in how a person perceives you feel about something, so if you seem REALLY down when you tell them, then they are naturally going to feel very sorry for you because you seem unhappy and in a very weakened state.

If you, however, say it with your chin up and tell them how important to you that it is you get better (while seeming relatively as positive as you can for having an injury), you can usually just have them see that you've accepted the fact that you're injured but you seem well-aware of what it is you need to do to get better because that's your number one goal. So remember, APPEARING weak is not the same as BEING weak. You can be weak, but you can still APPEAR strong and confident.

So I wouldn't try to hide something like this because people will obviously become skeptical about you as you already noticed.
