If I were you, I would've tried moving off the subject of the cat as soon as I saw an opening, because in that environment you have a limited amount of time to work with and you need to see where her attraction levels are (by flirting and teasing). You're likely to only get the girls who were already attracted due to time constraints, but you'll be surprised at how often that happens. You don't want to be in a situation where you look needy by going out of your way to talk to her again.
