How to reframe topics as a 'positive' when all you see is a negative on a certain topic?

So I had a conversation with a girl yesterday and she started talking about her childhood. She had a very nice and positive childhood. For me, that wasn't the case. I had a horrible and dysfunctional family. So when I look back to my childhood, all I see is horrifying memories that I used as fuel to succeed.

But I'm not sure how to frame negative events in my life generally when I'm making a conversation with a girl.

If I had a very negative experience, how can you frame it as positive?

Is this during the initial pickup stage or the road-to-relationship phase?

You answered your own question, you used your horrible memories as fuel to succeed, that's a positive.

Just don’t talk about your family. Problem solved
