How would you define the modern zeitgiest? Where do you think things are going?

Here's are two extremely broad question that are certainly open for interpretation that I think there is no better group than this one to answer. Be creative! I bet we could build up some interesting ideas. I'll add my opinions/interpretation of the question once I know that other people are interested in giving it a shot too :)

Re: How would you define the modern zeitgiest? Where do you think things are goi

I know this thread is a little old, but I really do think it asks about an interesting topic.

Personally, I think that this comic sums up what the prevailing zeitgeist is in the west (at least for anyone majorly plugged into media): http://www.highexistence.com/amusing-ou ... vs-orwell/

(the U.S. fits Huxley’s prediction and North Korea fit’s Orwell’s prediction)^

As far as what’s in store for us in the future: I think technological progress, notable achievements, and overall breadth of human knowledge will inevitably continue to grow exponentially (and that comes with its positive and negative aspects: you get more growth and expansion and knowledge at the expense of diminishing communal and personal identity i.e. everyday people have much more trouble finding purpose and meaning in their lives and you get a young crowd of men being coaxed to be less masculine and women coaxed to be more masculine).

Economically, I think there is impending doom in store for the U.S.

Peter Schiff describes it really well in his book: http://www.amazon.com/The-Real-Crash-Am ... 1250004470 (the first, top review of the book is a good summary of it; it’s where I think the country’s headed).

I’m optimistic for mankind, but personally, I think the West is really plummeting in a downward spiral (our economy’s future looks bad).

Those are a few of my thoughts; I’m interested in hearing what your thoughts or anyone else’s thoughts on the subject of modern zeitgeist are.
