There’s an option for “chat” and “conversation”. I don’t know what either of those are and I don’t know how to send a private message.

Is there anyway to change the names of these to better represent what they do? I’ve seen others get confused by this too, even sending a message that was meant to be private and have it show publicly.

@Chase

I also find this confusing. Thanks for bringing it up.

Any update on this? Is it do-able?

@J Wick/@Teevster,

Yeah, I can see how that'd be a bit confusing.

Xenforo calls private messages "Conversations" for some reason.

I guess they just wanted to be different.

If you click on the "Start conversation" button, it opens up this dialogue:

You can see if you click on the "Inbox" icon it also opens up the "Conversations" box, talking about recent conversations, start a new conversation, etc.

(just a coincidence I happen to have 69 alerts there)

In theory we could probably change "Conversation" to "Private message"... it would probably require crawling through a number of core files in Xenforo and modifying them all, since the name "Conversation" is used so many places... and then we'd need to remember to do that every time we updated core and overwrote the changes.

Realistically we are probably just stuck having the name "Conversation" in there for "Private message."

"Start chat" just opens up a private chat with another member in the chat window.
