Just had an interesting chat with a rather intelligent woman who yet had some disparate foldings of her mind. She seemed to think I should feel ashamed of myself for being a white male and that sexism only goes one way. She also believes women are a type of minority and that they are systematically oppressed while (white) men are not and are in fact the oppressors. A rather superficial, hypocritical, and unproductive way of looking at things if you ask me, but hey, she helped me get a better idea of what I believe. In particular I learned that really effective propaganda is mostly true, but redefines specific words in a way to makes it extremely difficult to communicate past the superficial level and trivializes any beliefs that don't reinforce it. It's frustrating when you encounter someone who is clearly intelligent and more or less open-minded but who cannot get past the words on topics that they've been stigmatized on, to the extent that othering immediately occurs and they hold their position without really considering what the other party is saying, instead just being defensive and uncritical. She probably feels a similar way about me though, which is odd to think about. I much prefer principle based discussion, as that can actually lead to win-win situations, but alas, I am perhaps an idealist in this regard. Anyway, I'll avoid such conversations in the future. This was more of an experiment to see how such a person's mind is folded, as reading some of Drexel's stuff made me curious.

P.S. And no, this wasn't a girl I was interested in seducing -- definitely not my type. Just a girl who came by because I'm finding someone to take over my lease. I don't think my roommate would be very pleased with me if I chose her as his new roommate though...
