Is freelancing still worth it?

Hey guys,

I'm working hard on mastering Python fundamentals right now and will probably specialize and then I'm planning to freelance on sites like Upwork.
I did my research and found many people claiming freelancing is saturated etc.
This is new to me so I am quite lost.
Anyone who did freelance and earn from it, I would love your perspectives please.

I freelanced on Fiverr, making anywhere between $10-$40 an hour with Java programming. But it took me 6 months to get to that point.
Before I was doing:
- Product testing
- Voiceover
These 2 had demands (in 2017) but low income. I earned a couple reviews and started programming gigs. Offering various things at that time:
Java, C#, Python, PHP, but ultimately Java was the winner
