Is This Reaction Normal?

I have quite some girlfriends at school (read: Social Circle), the problem is approaching in the mall and on the streets.

I did manage to get a girls name and started a small conversation at the mall as a tryout. However, then I went to another girl and opened her with the usual "you're cute" opener and offered her my hand, well, she turned me down, but the problem is that her friend and she started to look at me like I am some sort of weirdo for trying to talk to her until I disspeared.

I really love girls, I do and I don't want to give them any unwanted emotions or I don't wanna scare them. I want it all to be fun, mutual fun! So, that behavior really fucked my mood up.

I don't think girls here in India are ever approached, not that they look bad but because not everyone is learning seduction and almost no one has the the balls to do it at least not at my age I guess (I'm 16).

Also, I don't want to scare some girl and get into some pointless conversation or a fight with White Knights nearby. I am probably overthinking but it's still worth a thought since I don't wanna hurt anyone. ;)

So, is it completely normal to get these sort of reactions once in a while or did I do something wrong? This was my second street approach so I am just trying to build up refrence points and some confidence.

Advice me! Good people!

Thanks in advance. ;)

"You're cute " sounds a little too short. You should have opened with the "I just saw you here..."
Or maybe its the conservative nature of India that's the problem.

I am from India too. I've done only 2 cold approaches so far (both in school)
The first one went alright because the girl gave me her no, she had a boyfriend though so I dropped it.
The second one wasn't too bad, except that instead of the phone no I got her facebook.

And I've started flirting with girls a lot more, and you know what? I've gotten far better. Like chase says, the more you go out and actually approach girls the better you get. The biggest problem for me is finding girls in my age group (15-19) alone on the streets. They are always WITH THEIR PARENTS/FAMILY/.[/b] so annoying. anyway keep approaching and keep posting your results. Nice to see someone from my country actually doing this instead of the usual 'bollywood pickup lines '

By that I meant, thw whole "Hi, I just wanted to come tell you that you're really cute. Hi, (Introduces himself with a warm smile and handshake)" routine.

Nice to see you here too mate.

EDIT: Way to go BTW, and best of luck. :)
