I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to deal with male friends who whenever an attractive girl comes along they try and put you down in order to seem funny or cool in the girls eyes.

Example: I was at a bar with a friend and there was an attractive girl working at the bar. My friend says "My name is Anthony" and then says "his name isn't important" referring to me.

Why do some men do things like this whenever an attractive girl is around? Personally I think its lame. It shows that you dont really have enough game to sleep with her, but you have to put other guys down to get her to think you're funny or cool. I just don't understand it.

They aren't really your friends if they constantly do this to you.

Hang with new ppl who are more chill around you or go out solo.

If you're great with witty remarks, then this isn't something that's too hard to deal with.

When your friend said "his name isn't important," you could have interjected by saying "But you can can call me shaneawi."

One thing you did well was not confronting your friend on the spot and challenging him. (Some people do this, and they're usually the ones with short fuses. Not good for pick up.)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but something I noticed is that you don't sound terribly dominant. This is an essential, must-have skill when you are picking girls up with wingmen. Otherwise, I would just go solo.

To answer your question about why some guys do this, the answer is that some guys do this because they need to make themselves appear high value, and they don't know how to do that without putting other people down.

I think its time to find some new friends. Whenever I'm with a friend and there are girls around I never try and diminish their game or image in the eyes of women. I usually will help them out to get laid if I can. My mentality is that there are millions of women in the world so why tear down other men to get women.

Some people can't figure out the more light you shine on other people, the more is reflected back on you.

In that situation I'd say something to the effect of "Please excuse my rude friend, He really is a nice guy, but needs a Snickers. You ladies should probably buy him something to get his blood sugar up."

Then turn on your heel and go meet someone else.

Chances are if the women in question value social graces you will get a chance to reengage them. It probably will be one of the girls reopening you, in a different part of the venue, about your buddy's gaff. At that point you don't talk bad about him, but don't excuse his behavior. "Well he is an interesting individual." you say and then begin finding out about your new Bird in the hand.

Definitely agree with previous posts. If your friends do this only from time to time you can think of it as a chance to show how unfazed and suave you are by following either of the suggestions above. Its a slight shift in interpretation but makes your time so much more enjoyable.
