As to the multiple women issue, no I don't have a problem with that, but I would do it in a socially savvy way.
No woman wants to feel they are "just a number" to you... so you have to be coming from a sincere and genuine place. From that point of view it's basically about removing mental blocks and filters -- you like a girl, you let her know. You can be sincere in your attraction to more than one woman in a bar/vicinity.
On the other hand if you hit on a girl and then immediately hit on her best friend, they probably will assume you're just playing the numbers and not that sincere. Remember she wants to feel special, and if she is special to you, create that feeling!
You can & should be social, talk to others in her group, get to know them, compliment them, even grab a dance off them if you keep it friendly, but save the sexual moves and most of the strong eye contact, touch communication, sexual tension etc for the girl you really like. It's prob best to choose the girl you like and approach her specifically before tackling the group, although some PUAs would have it the opposite (hit up the others, neg her, make her feel ignored & lonely, then build her up again to spike attraction... yuk, not my style at all!).
As to hitting on multiple girls that don't know each other, well go hard bro. The reason this works is preselection -- she sees you with a girl, particularly one who is hot (and girls are very aware of where they stand in the hotness hierarchy)... and thinks to herself "well she likes him... therefore, he must be a sexy, socially savvy guy! give me a piece of that action!!". She also knows you have options so she thinks (1) if he comes over here I'd better grab him before he goes off again to socialize somewhere else (2) he's not in scarcity so he's not going to turn into a puppy dog and bug me for sex for the rest of the night the moment I show him the slightest interest.
Preselection is incredibly powerful. You have to level up a little before you really get the chance to see it in action. But it's a little like putting a turbocharger on your 1.3L civic hatch...
