Yesterday on my lunch break I went to one of the local malls. (There are four within 5 minutes driving of where I work) I have made a commitment to myself to lose significant weight (200 lbs) so I am doing the Mall walk thing for some exercise. There was not a lot of people at the mall I chose so the female pickings where very few. As I was walking a women passed me on the left and from the back she looked alright so I said "You're supposed to say 'On Your Left' when passing." This is a reference to the Captain America movie. Her response was, "Sorry" and she continued to walk ways. Honestly it was not the response I was expecting so I replied "That's ok I was just kidding." No response. So I don't know if this was a bad comment, a bad position from behind, if she was in a hurry to get somewhere, or if she had no interest in me. Obviously with my weight there are women at first sight who are not attracted to me. This usually goes away as soon as I start talking to them. So maybe with no eye contact this was a no win. Any opinions?

On a different note that evening I went to the local grocery store to pick up a few items. I had meet the cashier once before within a couple of days ago. She is cute and young, around 18. I could tell she wasn't happy about being at work while I was waiting in line. So I started of by calling her by name with a big smile. "Hi xx. How are you doing?" I went right into a conversation with her. By time I finished my purchase, 3 small items, she was all smiles and blushing. Trying to meet the cashier at a grocery store is difficult, especially when you only have a few items and people are waiting behind you. The time is very limited. It is nice to have a cute young thing flirt with me. It give me motivation.

Re: FR. Mall Walk

Nothing ventured nothing gained.

I have found though that along hiking trails people are more conversational.

Especially when travelling in the same direction. In a mall people walking want to get somewhere. Especially when passing you.

I didn't get the Captain America reference either.

Cashiers are always looking for something to liven up their day. You can try the most off the wall stuff on them to make them laugh. After a conversation and some back and forth, I love leaving and saying "Same time next week or should I call for an appointment?" If you captivated her, you will get the number.

Funny. My last words to the cashier were 'Until next time."

The Captain America was probably to geekie. At the beginning of the movie he is running around Washington Square to where he is a blur. Before he passes someone he says On you left.
