Long-Term Meeting her Ex

So I'm meeting the Girlfriend at the airport where she and her kids are flying in. She and I are leaving from there to go on vacation together for the rest of the week.

Her Ex, the father of the children, will most likely be there as well to pick up the kids. Haven't met him yet. From my research it seems he is a cold asshole vibe kind of guy. Couple pictures I've seen he has a scowl on his face. I'll recognize him and his second wife. Not sure if he knows who I am though.

Thinking I'll mainly focus on my girlfriend when she arrives, and if she makes the introduction, do the handshake, "Nice to meet you" routine. Not sure if they have seen each other in person in a couple years. Sounds like my gf has more of a dialogue with his wife than with him.

Just for reference I might be 4 inches taller, 4 years younger, in better shape, and a hell of a lot warmer personality, than this guy.

I would expect him to be silent and maybe give me a bit of a glare. I'll project a strong, confident, but approachable demeanor.

Any thoughts on how this meeting could go down?

Well met him in the airport at the baggage claim after I met her and her kids. Typical city Italian, not a guido, but he had the accent. He had heard about my hometown and mentioned he had a relative (his grandmother's sister's son or something) in the area who was recently did a stint in federal prison. When I replied that I knew the guy and replied with his relative's nickname, his eyes got kinda wide. Shook his hand firmly with a confident smile.

When she got off the plane, of course she gave me a big hug and kiss and her kids kinda looked unsure. I asked the boy as I held out my hand "You wanna hug too?" He laughed and replied "Yeah!"so we did the bro-hug thing.then his sister came and gave one too. Their dad wasn't there yet.

Not much else to tell. Kids went with their dad, and we went our own way and did our thing for 8 nights.
