Alot of the time during conversations I'll ask a question an then that person I'm speaking with will repeat the same question to me after they've answered.

E.g- How have you been, they'll answer and then ask me how I've been.
Another example would be something like, how did you go on that test, then after they answer they'll ask me how I went on the test.

After watching so many interactions and realizing that I unconsciously do this as well, I've just gotta ask. Is this what I ought to continue doing? Cos its basically just people repeating the other person's question and that doesn't feel right to me haha

Well, this is what small talk looks like. You ask a quick question, get an answer and you are questioned back. It's completely normal during a school or work setting.

It's a problem if you keep small talking with persons you genuinely want to know. You only get an update of what is going with their life, but not their dreams, passions, missions and such (if they have any).
