I've recently gotten out of a 6 year relationship and been having some difficulty getting dates. I signed up for an online dating site and been getting a few (40+) numbers but when I try to get them out to "grab a drink" it fizzles. Am I supposed to be building comfort via text? Am I not moving fast enough? Usually text for a day or so before asking her to meet me out. It seems there is strong initial interest but it fades. When I mention I'm not looking for anything in particular right now, prefer a natural flow, they seem quite turned off.

Quite a few of my friends are surprised I am even on a dating site; I keep getting told, "you can have any girl you want, why are you on a dating site?" I'm extremely outgoing, college athlete, amateur body builder, and avid outdoorsman. I'm recently sober (5 months) and staying away from the bar scene but been approached numerous times and girls will just hand me their number if I do go out to a bar. Still haven't started approaching regularly despite my friends saying that girl is "staring at you" or "that girl wants you." The times I have approached and just made casual conversation their interest goes from 100 to 0 and they become rude. Would it be best to just directly state what I want to do to these girls? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Coming out of a relationship that long must be tough, you'll have to switch mentality a bit. But it sounds like you've got a lot going for you.

In terms of online dating: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=43

But I think for you to sort a few things out, I think this is the best idea: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=34

Forget the fact it says Newbie. The fact it has a structure is superb.

Set up a journal, do this, report back and you'll start noticing patterns. Then move from there. Act first, then we all know what we're working with. And enjoy it!!
