I'm Canadian living in Eastern Europe. I have been learning the language here for a few years quite diligently. My level is around B1 and people have told me that my accent is very good/that I don't have an accent.

Sometimes people here are very self conscious about their English and say that they don't speak it.

I think maybe the fact that I'm a native English speaker from Canada could be seen as a DHV here and create intrigue in her. At the same time, it could scare girls off who don't speak English or who are shy about it. Also, they might think I'm a tourist.

So I don't know what language to open in. What would you guys do? Thanks

Open in your strongest language, always. That means English.

If her English is so bad that she can't understand you, then you can switch to her language to get the point across. But you should be reverting back to your native language as much as possible.

I've tested this a lot (I speak several languages to moderate fluency) and my conclusion has always been to ground the interaction in English, with sprinklings of their language here and there to facilitate communication.

The reason is because nuance is SO important in seduction, and by speaking a foreign language you lose that. You're playing on her turf, and you're just never going to sound as smooth as a native speaker.

When speaking your native tongue, even if she doesn't understand 100% of what you say (or hell even 10%), you're still going to sound more calibrated and more confident than you ever could in a foreign language.

It sets a dominant frame - you're relaxed and in control of the conversation, while she has to engage her brain just to keep up with you. In a way, you're qualifying her on her English skills.

That's a LOT better than being the bumbling foreigner trying and struggling to string together a sentence in her native language, which half of the time will just sound weird to her (even if you are very fluent you will still lack the nuance and eloquence of a native speaker).

Open in English, and only switch to her language when/if necessary to move the interaction along.

If I know some of the language I will do a half-assed job at translating my opener, laugh it off, and then switch to english. Shows that you know some of the culture and you don't take yourself too seriously.

Thanks for your reply. Interesting. What about opening in her language by asking if she speaks English and then proceeding in whichever language based on her answer? I've heard some girls say that it's uncomfortable/annoying when English speaking guys just throw English at them assuming that they understand etc.

Pretty much this

I speak Farsi French Korean and Chinese though not fluently enough to work professionally in those countries it’s enough to carry decent conversation and win rapport- if you can speak the language of the girl you’re approaching even just a bit it can impress them depending on the situation of course
