So Star Wars: The Last Jedi premiered a couple of weeks ago, and if you’ve seen it what did you think? Or in general what do you think about this new trilogy of Star Wars movies?

Personally, (don’t want to rant here) I think that it sucked a lot for a lot of reasons. Now, I don’t know if any of you on this forum care all that much about politics but (call me crazy), I think a lot of political views have seeped their way into media and tv today, and The Last Jedi does a wonderful job at pushing a political agenda (I understand that the sentiment towards feminism and political correctness on Girlschase is not all that positive, or is neutral to the very least, so I feel comfortable talking about it in this light here). It’s very hard to ignore the ideology expressed in this Star Wars such as the “Mary Sue” that embodies Rey’s character (unrealistically powerful/strong/smart). The movie also does a pretty good job at belittling male characters like Poe for instance. That all being said I feel that this Star Wars has a very different flavor to it that undermines the saga we’ve come to know and love. & to be honest I liked the prequels better (You heard right).

That’s my take on it, what’s yours?

P.S. if you’re going to give details about the movie, drop a spoiler warning :)

Yup I saw the movie, I agree with pretty much everything you said. They made the girl basically the strongest Jedi ever with no training, it's terrible! I'm not even a fan like that of star wars, but it's terrible to see stuff like this. I think Finn has it worse than Poe, he gets belittled in the movie worse than anyone (hmmm I wonder why?....) i won't get into it, but they treat him as a big joke, and I also believe that rey was gonna be his love interest, but of course people would be against it, now he has this unattractive asian girl, and it seems Poe or kylo might end up with rey.

Terrible fuckin movie and vii was shit too.

I actually like episodes 1-3 the best. Idk if it's a unique opinion or not.

Background for what I'm about to say: I have only watched the first movie (chronologically with Luke, so I think episode 4) and the one that introduced Rey (whatever episode number that is with the Kylo kid too) from start to finish. I've watched bits and pieces of the other movies and my cousin loves it all so I have the basic gist of it.

I thought this movie was retarded. I completely agree that Rey is some uber kill everyone with no training rah rah women bullshit most powerful womenz ever that was really annoying.

Also the ending with Luke makes no damn sense to me whatsoever.

Thought it was a garbage movie as someone that hasn't watched all of the movies.

Yeah man. Films are going down the shitter these days because they are all trying to follow a political movement. The Last Jedi had a 51% audience approval rating last time I checked.

It does suck. I wish all the name calling would end and we could have men be men and girls be girls. Maybe soon.

But if you want to watch modern tv that's not feminist, stick to things like The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and Vikings.

Look for non-Hollywood films.

For instance, in the past year, if you like scifi, I quite enjoyed Infinity Chamber, by the director of Pandorum. It's a sort of low budget Inception/Matrix/Dark City-esque film.

If you like Lovecraftian horror, A Cure for Wellness is fairly masterful. Plus it has Jason Isaacs from The Patriot and Soldier in it, and he is always a fantastic villain.

I just saw the M. Night Shyamalan film The Visit, and found that quite good. Another solid low budget horror. His next film after that, Split, is also supposed to be good.

The Bollywood film Dangal has a lot of great humor if you like funny movies. Same main star in it as in 3 Idiots, another very good, very funny Bollywood film. It sounds like it'd be a rah-rah film since it's superficially about female wrestling, but it's really about the father trying to overcome bad coaching from other coaches and other obstacles. And there is little overt girl power stuff in it, save for the young female wrestler beating some lower-mid-tier male wrestlers early on in her wrestling career.

Hollywood scriptwriters mostly get their story beats from Save the Cat these days, which makes Hollywood films increasingly formulaic and their scripts more and more recognizable to audiences. And then a lot of the big budget movies try to max out the political correctness as a sort of safeguard; they don't want anyone attacking the movie as not having enough diversity or being too misogynistic, which might hurt sales. And they want all the reviewer / PC culture bonus points from checking off all the political correctness boxes.

Makes for pretty crummy movies most of the time, but at least right now the strategy works, and these movies still continue to pull in huge box office takes.

The working assumption should be if you're a male who is not P.C., you're not part of Hollywood's target audience. Hollywood targets mass audiences who want vanilla flavored fare that won't trigger them. If you want more interesting films, look outside Hollywood.

Chase

EDIT: oh yeah. And if you like scifi, start watching Isaac Arthur's channel on YouTube. It's better than most scifi movies and you will learn stuff too.

If you didn't watch it yet, there will be some spoilers here.

At first sight, it seems a reasonable SciFi movie, with a few good elements, spaceships scenes very well made, some action and suspense. The kamikaze hyperspace jump into the enemy ship is a good one.

But on second thoughts, it's actually a terrible movie. There is an obvious feminist agenda. Women are the apt leaders of the rebellion, the new Jedi is a woman, and even the spacetroopers have their super female boss around the end of the movie. On the other side, the men are nearly all losers weaklings. Luke is cowardly hiding in his bitterness, Poe is pushing a plan that fails miserably, Finn would be doing a good job but ends up kissing this fat Chinese. The other male character Kylo is the bad guy. Morality, men are stupid losers and women do a better job on every count. That's for a feminist agenda... I find it sickening.

Now, there is also the complete lack of originality. The scenario is grossly mimicking episodes 4, 5 and 6. Rey is the new Luke, Kylo is another Darth Vader, Snoke (or whatever his name) is the new Emperor, Luke is the new Obiwan, there is a new resistance, there is a new death star and they destroy it, Luke fights Kylo like Obiwan fought Vader, Luke lets himself die just like Obiwan did, Rey fights Snoke like Luke fought the Emperor (the scene is so similar), and even the last scene with the Imperial Walkers looks so much like the attack on the ice world in episode 5.

I know Hollywood applies proven recipes, but usually they still manage to have some imagination. Here it seems that they just grossly copy-pasted the scripts from Episodes 4-6. If I was George Lucas I would beat myself to have sold the work of my life to these losers and see them destroy the brand name of Star Wars.

So disappointing.

I didn't even notice that these new episodes are rehashed. Glad you spotted it out. I'm glad there are other people in the world that see Finn as a joke besides black people and making him get with the Asian was bullshit, they didn't even give him the fine sister, they treat him worse than jar jar, it's bad enough that he couldn't be the Jedi, but he has to be the worse character ever.

I don't get this fem bullshit, I thought women wanted strong men. This movie proves how fukced up this shit is and it makes no sense. I'm not even a huge star wars fan, I get enraged because they are using star wars as a way of showing real world views. It's not even a movie at this point, you're watching what the media is talking about, but in space, it's all propaganda.

I have to say I did not even think of watching foreign movies, I will have to check them out. Also I assume these movies don’t have any political agenda to them? It would be definitely refreshing to watch a good movie that was only made for entertainment.

Thanks for the recommendations!

I saw The Last Jedi a few weeks back. I made an Instagram post talking about it, but it was very abridged. Basically, I thought the movie was good. They was a lot going on in it, and some of it could have been cut. For example, the subplot involving the new rebel leader could have easily been cut. I loved Benicio Del Toro's character in the movie, a money motivated character who believes that good and evil are just words. Kylo Ren is not an intimidating villain. I mean, he was having shirtless scenes. Not even Loki has a shirtless scene. If Darth Vader took off his shirt, he would die.

Cacc,

What is your definition of a Mary Sue?

I saw it last night for the first time and I have to agree it was a pretty PC typical Disney idealism.

OK spoiler alert but did anyone get the link at the end of the movie that General (Princess) Leia was Hillary Clinton regrouping after her loss to rise strong again? The scene were Luke comes back to the Ice base to buy time for the rebels to escape and Leia is in that backroom contemplating and saying "we lost but we fought well" and then comes Luke the dark figure about to emerge from the shadows (which by the way would've been super funny if Al Gore showed up instead of Luke, I digress). All I could think in this scene was the dark side winning against the rebels as a metaphor for Donald Trump and the republican party defeating Hillary Clinton, or princess Leia in this case (and they kind of look alike Carrie Fisher and Hillary lol).

Anyway maybe that's just my imagination.

Yeah I have to say The Last Jedi was feminist to the point of cringing with pretty much zero strong male leadership, multiple top women leaders, guys being completely ineffective, and it was pretty funny how the black guy got the ugly Asian girl and friendzoned by Rey it seemed (the message being that ugly girls with good hearts/personality can get the man of their dreams if they can show off their personality... ugh get a Gym membership).

Lastly the middle aged female leader with the purple hair seemed like she was taken straight from a mega corporate senior level HR department, died her hair purple, and told her to act normal. She was not my favorite character by a long stretch.

The coolest guy in the whole movie is Poe and at least he approaches the only hot girl in the whole movie at the end so maybe he'll seal the deal (prediction: once in a relationship he will be cucked hard by Disney lol).

Def going to stay out of the movie theater moving forward.

Haha that’s a pretty good parallel I hadn’t thought of. I really wouldn’t be surprised if one of the script writers secretly had that in mind while working on the movie. In fact I’d be even less surprised if Hillary used her millions to get Star Wars to be about her lol.

I didnt like the movie because there were a few disney scenes that made me think "come the fuck on " such as leia floating through space. The action was good, it was well shot, but all star wars movies have been pretty PC and cheesy. On the note of female leaders, iy kinda made sense because the rebellion was on its last ship, chances are the male leaders are dead. As far as undermining Poe, leia amd the other chick said "hes a trouble maker, but i like him". Maybe his lack of rank has to do with age, but the women aren't attracted to weak men by any means.
