This summer, I've wanted to change my appearance and focus on fundamentals. Besides the fact that I have been working six days a week, and I just got my car back, I've found that I haven't made the change I am looking for. Its tough to start, but I have found that once I start, its easier to do big things. One of the biggest challenges has been simply to get a new haircut. I read here that the best thing to do is to go to a salon and have a gay guy cut your hair. For some reason, I can't imagine myself having the confidence to walk in and do that and not be visibly uncomfortable. I was raised catholic, and there is a lot of homophobia in the catholic church, but I also just would feel embarrassed.

How do you guys get yourself motivated? And how do you mentally prepare for things that you know will be a challenge?

For me, preparing for a challenge is fun, I'm the type who likes to solve things (probably stems from my math background), but I take challenges as self-efficacy enhancers. For example, if you complete something that required a good portion of your effort, and got it done, then you feel shit tons better about yourself, and you feel you have grown somehow. Walk into any challenge with the mindset that it is going to make you a better person, completing the challenge will have some positive effect on your life! And you want that betterment!
-Enjoy,
Richard
