Paying for a girl on the first date before she's proved she's LTR material???

There's one thing I'm not sure about, and it's whether you should pay for a girl's drink on the first date when you're looking for a relationship. Now I know if you're looking for a relationship you should pay so you can come across as a provider, but what about on the first date, when you don't even know what she's like yet? Once you know she's relationship material you can pay for her yes but what about until she's proven she is, do you pay for her drink, or not?

Tbh, I don't think it matters. This is such a minuscule part of the dating process that it probably won't change the outcome unless you also did other things wrong. It's like if you're training for a marathon and you're worrying about what running shoes you're gonna wear. ...It doesn't matter. What matters is that you're in good enough shape to finish it.

Having said that, what I do as far as paying for dates goes is this: If she puts her drink with mine or otherwise indicates that she would like or expects me to pay for it, I'll just do it. But if she doesn't explicitly make any gestures that suggest an expectation of payment, I won't pay for her stuff.
