Been a long time reader of this site and finally made my way over to the forums here. I hate this to be my first post, but its a pressing situation and as weird as it sounds I feel like you guys will be able to help.
So this so this is going to detail an issue I had this morning involving my job.
So lying in bed this morning and my phone rings. Turns out its my supervisor asking me why I am not at work to which I reply, "Because I don't work today" to which he told me I was wrong and that I could come in late. I explained I could not because of very important things I needed to do today (had a few exams) and got it marked on my record as a no call/no show and received attendance points accordingly that put me in a bad place.
Today also happens to be the first day of our new shift bid, but the scheduler messed up and set me to work the opposite weekends of what I requested and she stated on the phone that I work the 16th and 17th (this was about a week and a half ago this was scheduled). I however have no way to prove this and I technically should have looked at the schedule and it was irresponsible of me not to look to be safe so I have that counting against me. I've only been at this company for two months now, but throughout my working experience never have I not shown up to work or been late so this is rather frustrating. I am going to talk to the boss tomorrow (I'm going to him he didn't call me in) and explain to him about the shift bid and how I was put on the wrong day and I didn't notice as well as ask him some other questions I've been meaning to bring up to him. My goal isn't to completely get rid of all my accumulated attendance points because I deserve them, but I want to halve them as I still feel that I am not completely at fault. As I said I cannot prove that the scheduler and I set up a different schedule and I should have looked at the schedule in advance, but assumed based on my call to the scheduler that I was good to go.
One thing that is working in my favor is that the scheduler is known for being bad at their job and the boss hates her and I've been told by many people that if I have any issues with her to go see him immediately.
If you have an suggestions of how to approach the boss, the situation, or anything I would appreciate a mature response. I've never been in a spot like this so I'm fairly lost as to what to do. I remember chase once writing that he talked his way out of being fired (I'm not in a position to be fired I don't believe), so I thought this would be as good of a place as any to ask.
Thanks guys and I hope to see you on the on topic forums.
