Quick Question About Teasing

So a friend of mine told me that teasing the girl whenever she's about to leave, gives an excuse, or she stops paying attention/gets bored to tease her to get her back into the conversation. He mentioned it almost like a hard rule rather than just a trick to use one or two times.

For me, it seemed to work sometimes and other times it didn't work (different girl though). Is this bad advice or maybe I am doing it wrong?
