Hey guys, I've been thinking about getting a new haircut, as I don't think mine is sexy enough or edgy enough. I was wondering if you guys have any ideas? I honestly don't have too much of an idea of what looks good, so any suggestions are nice. Just one thing though, I'll be working this summer in business (so I'll have to wear suits and such), so it has to be somewhat professional and not too crazy.

It's kinda hard to describe what my hair is like now, but I don't get my bangs cut, and I wind up lightly gelling/moussing it up in the front (but it doesn't look wet or shiny or get hard/stiff (lol) at all). My sides are shorter than the top, but it's not that big of a difference. My hair is dark brown.

I was thinking something with my hair down and a bit messier, like this:

but I am really open to suggestions and flexible. And feel free to post ideas that don't necessarily follow my situation, as I want this thread to apply to more than just me, and instead something everybody can use.

Depends what your face type is, facial structure is pretty important when factoring suitable haircuts. Also depends on overall look you are going for too. If you have a more oval shaped face there are quite a few hairstyles, the one you pictured below will work if you have a more angular face.

For example I have a sharp (or sharper thanks to goal to single digit bf) chin, very angular defined jawline but squarish/roundish head. With a more block head :p a short haircut suits me best more of a shortback/sides more of an angular version of the caesar without the overhanging fringe. Bigger hair just makes it too messy for me, most I can take is a stylised fauxhawk/mohawk but sides do have to be trim. Once the sides start to get messy it goes downhill pretty quickly as my hair grows very quickly.

Go to is something akin to this, I have a similar facial structure both the Chinese version:

My cousin who has the classic chinese model facial features, sharp chin structure and slim face goes with this:

The above I have used as well but like in the picture sides and back have to be well trimmed and grows out in 1 week... My cousin can afford to have the back and sides grow out, does pretty well with the girls with those types of hairstyles. If he dresses up right he can look like one of your sterotypical modern asian models. For me I'm too stocky for it, have to with the more muscular look instead. :D

Personal Rule of thumb:

More squarish face a shorter haricut is more suitable. A haircut that can enhance the length, avoid hairstyles that emphasis width as it will create more disproportion with the length of ones face.

Thinner faces can afford to grow out their hair more. Typical can increase sides as this increases width, again similar approach be careful on hairstyles with emphasis on length as overall look will be too long; avoid larger mohawks etc.

Just my personally thought that may help out,

Pato,

Before you decide to take a new haircut you need to find out what type of hair you have. Is your hair curly, wavy or straight?
In addition, you should take into account your facial structure like Glitch said.
Do you have an oval, square, oblong, round, diamond, hearth or a triangular facial structure?

A hair style that suits almost any hair type and facial structure is the undercut.
A major advantage of this hairstyle is that it can be styled both clean looking (for business) or edgy looking.

Take a look at Mr. Timberlake:
In the uppermost picture and the picture on the right you see a more edgy look. Combine this hairstyle with a simple white shirt and a leather jacket and you gonna have a certain edgy about you.
The picture on the left displays a more neat look, and this is a more 'business approved' look. In my opinion this look still displays a certain edge.

I'm currently rocking this exact haircut and it makes me stand out, but in a subtle way.
