Hey all, this one was at the gym. I've seen this girl a few times and felt like she checked me out early on, but she isn't the hottest girl in the gym so I'd avoid interacting with the other hotter girls around. Today, though, all the other good looking girls had left, so I approached (Big note, I just finished sprinting my ass off and my mind and body are toast).

As I approached, she thought I was going to a machine she was maybe going to and shyly gestured "you can have it". I went up to her instead:

Me: Hey, I was wondering what ethnicity you are.
Her: Oh I'm Spanish and Italian.
Me: Oh cool, I couldn't tell if you were Latin or Middle Eastern (many of those around here).
Her: Yeah, actually my mom is from Belize... Do you know where that is?
Me: Ehh, not really... Ecuador?
Her: It's near there.
Me (took a second because I'm exhausted) Oh I see, sorry, if I weren't fried from sprints my brain would be here haha.
Her: No worries! I'm actually from New York.
Me: Which part?
Her: Long Island (her strong accent occasionally pops out lol)
Me: Oh cool, I used to live in Rochester.
Her: Ohhh. Are you from here?
Me: *looks off* I'm kind of from... everywhere. California, New York, here.
Her: Oh wow (accent came out) All over.
Me: Yeah I was in (starts pointing on a pretend map in the air) Central... wait, do you know much about California?
Her: Not really.
Me: Ahh, you know San Francisco and LA?
Her: Yeah.
Me (back to the made up map) So here's SF, go 2 hours inland and it's boring there haha. Then go 2 hours south of LA, and not so boring.
Her: Ahh yeah, I know about those parts. I just came here a couple months ago. My family is all here.
Me: Interesting, what do you do? In school?
Her: Hairdresser.

(As I write her responses, I see they're not very long, though her tone seemed good, but...)

Me: Nice, well *looks at clock* I have to get back to work..
Her: You have work?
Me: Yeah... you're kind of cute
Her: Thank you!
Me: How'd you like to hang out some time?
Her: Maaaaybeee.
Me: Maybe? How do we turn that maybe into a yes?
Her: Idk haha.
Me: Well let's do this, I'll give you my number and when that maybe turns into a yes, you can text me.
Her: Okay! *gets phone out* What's your number?
Me: *number*
Her: I'll text you.....
Me: (teasingly) Oh, that maybe turned into a yes quickly haha
Her: Well I always need new friends! How long have you been here?
Me: A year and a half.
Her: How do you like it?
Me: Well... So I went to Europe (Her: oh cool!) and if we say Europe is socially a first world, here feels like socially a third world.
Her: yeah, I can see that...
Me: I bet this is really different from NY, NY life.
Her: Yeah... I'm just not used to not having friends to go do stuff with.
Me: Well we'll find some stuff for you to do. I'm off now. ___ (name) right?
Her: Yeah, (I forgot what she said at the end lol)

So here we are, another maybe. I like the way I played with it, but I'm not sure how I can stop getting such lukewarm responses to ask-outs in the first place... She was pretty smiley and laughed a good amount, but still. She texted her name and I haven't responded. Thinking of taking her to a taco place, but going to wait for some feedback before jumping into texts, in case I'm missing something.
