eg, i'm riding my bike along the road when i ride past a girl. i can usually come up with some bullshit when i'm on foot but turning my bike around and going back to catch up with a girl ... ?

or how about i'm stopped at traffic lights and there's a girl waiting to walk across ...? i've said something like *smile* where you going? jump on *motion with head*... but this is clearly hardly ever going to get more than a smile and a polite head-shake

any suggestions on how to do this?

in the interests of full disclosure i'm riding a motor-scooter, without a helmet. and i'm a stranger in a foreign land so i somewhat stand out.

If you're sure that you already stand out, have no shame in circling around and approaching her. Open her up upon the second time seeing her. Primarily, before you open a girl up, you want to make sure she's seen you, you driving past is a surefire way to get her to notice you, and would be the perfect chance to approach her. I haven't had to talk to a girl while I was out riding a bike, or even out in the car. However, I would imagine the advantage the bike has, would be, you could ride in her general area (i.e, next to her, or ride toward her) and motion her to stop for a second, and open with a compliment from there like "Hey, I saw you walking, and noticed that you had an invigorating sense of style that's new and exciting, and rather refreshing from the usual. I wanted to come introduce myself. I'm such and such." Like I said, I haven't had to do it, but if I was in your situation this is how I would go about doing it.
-Good Luck,

thanks for your reply,

i guess it makes sense when you put it like that. i was imagining turning around and going back to be somewhat needy or tryhard.

In my opinion, whenever you approach a girl, wherever you are, however you do it, if you actively attempt to start the conversation with her, you're chasing at FIRST, what you say after, and how you handle the flow of the conversation is how you get her to chase you. With you, since you'd probably turn your scooter around, you'll feel like you're chasing her, but to her, I don't believe she'd see you as needy or tryhard, more than likely it will emphasize the compliment you give her because you had to put forth a little extra effort to give it to her, but that effort will be reciprocated, and she'll end up compensating for your extra effort.
Good luck,
Richard
