When talking to girls and they tell me something cool I usually say something like "oh that's awesome" before asking them more questions about what they just said.

Is there a different way to express that I'm impressed or intrigued by what she just told me? Because saying "that's cool" or "that's awesome" gets repetitive and seems too bland

N.S.,

You could easily google synonyms for the words "awesome" or "impressive" if that's what you were looking for. But I think the reason it seems repetitive and bland is because a statement like that lacks depth. You need to relate back to her why you find her statement impressive. eg:

Her: "...so after I finished backpacking around South America, i decided to start my degree in education."
You: "That's awesome. It's rare you find people that can balance the fine line between work and play. Usually they go too far with one or the other. So what made you decide on education as a degree..."

Better than just saying "that's awesome" because you're offering an explanation as to why you find it awesome and you offer and opportunity for a deep dive here.

I think you aren't enjoying the conversation. Probably because you are analyzing it too much.

Saying "cool" or nodding your head happens a lot in conversations. People just don't notice it cause you are so in the flow of things.
