The age old looks question

Hi all,

Apologies in advance for bringing this up: I know that it has been done to death.

I'm going through a weak spell of day game at the moment: a low phone number conversion rate, and of these none have then converted to dates. Sometimes it's easy to regress to thinking it's just about looks. I mean, being really good looking would have these girls interested for sure right?

Here's my question. Listening to the girls at work chatting about guys outside of work a common question is "is he hot?". Surely if looks weren't the most important factor the question would be something like "is he confident?" or "is he charismatic?"?

Thank you.

Aramis,

Here's my question. Listening to the girls at work chatting about guys outside of work a common question is "is he hot?". Surely if looks weren't the most important factor the question would be something like "is he confident?" or "is he charismatic?"?

The problem when you hear girls say this is that they aren't being extremely literal with the statement. When a girl describes a guy as "hot," I almost always think of her statement as how he makes her feel as opposed to a literal examination of the guy himself. If a guy makes her feel hot and bothered, then to her, the guy is "hot." Guys are usually much more blunt when they describe a girl as "hot" and are often referring to her overall physical appearance more than anything else.

It's not always the case, of course. Sometimes a girl will be referring solely to a guy's looks, but I've found girls describe specific guys as "hot" who definitely are not as physically attractive as many other guys that you would deem as traditionally "hot." So, it's really something I wouldn't worry about.

As a side note, I also tend to find that the guys with the best fundamentals (who dress well and are well groomed) tend to get labeled as "hot" with relatively much higher frequency from than any other guys (regardless of actual physical attributes).

Just as an example, my female friends always comment on how hot Michael Phelps is. This guy:

Okay, so I'm not a woman, but this guy looks ugly to me.

Know why he's so "hot" to women? Pounds of muscle and athletic success.

Another example is Jason Statham:

And, this isn't conjecture. Almost all of my female friends LOVE Michael Phelps and Jason Statham.

Jason isn't that good looking either, to be honest. But, he's got perfect eye contact (like a laser) and voice. He's always portrayed as a bad ass (and is, from what I know, in real life; he stays in shape by just learning some new martial art). He's the quintessential bad boy.

Strip these guys of their fundamentals/muscle/success, and you got another non-hot guy walking the streets.

Add back their "respect" and/or their fundamentals, and you've got 2 of the hottest guys around walking the streets.
