Hello Chase,

I've read about your Chinese jacket and how ditching it helped out in California. I have a Japanese inspired blazer that matches the size of my made-to-measure jacket exactly except for its straight cut down from the arm pit and am torn on getting it tailored (tucked in the waist) as per the whole Greek v-taper aesthetic ideal that suiting's based on.

How was a non-Western style received by women (especially if tried out in D.C.)? It seems to be a subtle peacock as mine is sleek and a little artsy for nighttime only, though did it ever make weirdo first impressions for you? Obviously having spent time in China gives you a completely different result than the other costumed guys (i.e. mustaches and fedoras, rockabilly/greasers, goth ninjas), but is it worth it?

Basically, do you have any insight into going for a true blazer (differing from an orphaned suit jacket) to be the guy who has his shit down and can navigate social environments with professional women, or do girls cum harder with the guy who has an outlier gene and is traversing through exotic cultures vs. another investment banker even in the finest fabrics?

Is is better to NOT show off all your worldly taste (showing off = less sprezzatura?), or better to go for implicit value by giving girls something to notice and ask about? Does Mystery in his top hat look ridiculous next to George Clooney?

I just don't want to be too much social risk with MILFs and or look creepy to University-aged girls a few years younger than me.

It's just that this is Japanese cotton too and pretty wind-plus a little water-resistant, so it's casual enough for jeans (and should work OK next to guys wearing wool blazers with jeans) plus is perfect for transit at night and being able to skip coat check.

Thanks

MB-

It's an attention-grabber and a polarizer, like wearing a fedora or something equally unusual/outlandish. You're essentially saying, "I want your attention," when you put something like this on. A blazer does this too, unless you're attending a wedding or a job interview or other formal event, though less outlandishly than something nobody wears in your region.

When you're newer and perhaps into intermediate or so, it's actually better to peacock a bit more outlandishly, because it opens you up to many more social "touch points": people walking up to comment on your clothes, people testing you (opportunities to level up how you deal with challengers), constant social pressure on you (thicken your skin, improve at shrugging off pressure and going for what you want regardless), people complimenting you (how do you deal with compliments and keep moving forward / maintain the 'approval-giving dominant male' role instead of being the one who is seeking approval?), and other such. It's fantastic for your progress.

You reach a point where you want to leave anything that sets off even a mild "this guy's peacocking" alarm off and instead opt entirely for outfits where someone looks at you and says, "You know, I don't know WHAT it is about that guy, as nothing in particular stands out, but he just looks AMAZINGLY cool." I wouldn't advise that until a guy is on the advanced side though because it reduces social touch points and makes you at once both more intimidating to approach and more likely to get cold shoulders and snubs if your attainability is not on point.

As for specific girl-categories: young girls flip out over anything different, and either love it or hate it. When I used to wear my Shanghai jacket around college-aged girls I'd get very polarized reactions. Made for some fun nights. MILFs aren't my forte and I have limited insight into their tastes, but women in the 25 to 30 range tend to be more subdued in their reactions, either "That's neat, where'd you get it?" or "Trying to get some attention tonight?", things like that.

(for anyone unfamiliar what MB and I are talking about, head to this article and scroll down to the conclusion)

I appreciate your insight Chase! Thank you!

I did not expect you to recommend using it as a gauntlet to run through, and assume this stems from your tendency to confront fears (such as past dealings with traffic, heights, etc.; yes, I've read much of your writing).

I'm impressed you rocked a Shanghai Tang jacket or similar style, haha and definitely am not stretching it that far. I've decided to tailor the blazer after speaking with the designer, and it really is not so Asian-inspired as to be even close to as attention-grabbing as a true foreign style.

I will definitely experiment with blazers, currently owning four separate from suits. I was once told in a grocery store by an old man that I walk around like I make my own money, so hopefully this will help with the globe-trotting entreprenartist vibe. Unfortunately I can count my lifetime approaches on one hand, as my first ever (transit day game) led to an incredibly rewarding year-long relationship (though accompanied by a ridiculous amount of studying and applying your material/mindsets within an upfront-expectations-set temporary relationship.

So, I've been enjoying hitting the streets since ending it (until she texts again).

Thank you thank you thank you. Not much is all that important to a man more than abundance of gene propagation opportunities. I'm moving up on Maslow's pyramid.

Peace

p.s. It was great to see an article from you again. I'm unclear if you are monogamous and planning on impregnation without passing commitment points. I'll be watching your work, Chase (which truly does offer a missed perspective even among other great writers), and especially appreciate the scientifically based writing. What tied everything together for me was the concept of mating for genes and its relation to preselection, dominance, wringing provider value out of lovers, etc.

Life is much more clear, especially with the knowledge that Beatlemania was exponential preselection,

p.p.s. I continually and clearly forget about the law of least effort and hope you will continue to reinforce it within articles haha

p.p.p.s. if anyone wants to give the Shanghai look a shot, I recommend you travel there and experience the culture (as I've yet to do) before adorning a piece of it, though I do offer this link in time for summer ;) http://www.grailed.com/listings/62345-s ... uit-jacket
