Turning my house mate into my girlfriend

So I'm at uni and living with this girl that I'm really attracted too (physically and emotionally) I'm sure she likes me as she has often made comment on my physique and on my nature (based on how I've dealt with unpleasant circumstances with previous girls in my life) and I want to get closer and ultimately make her my girlfriend. My problem however is that I'm not terribly experienced with girls. Once in a relationship I am fine but it is the process leading up to that where I am lacking so any advice as to how I can move closer to becoming an item with this girl would be greatly appreciated

Word of advice, don't shit where you eat. My current roommate got our apartment with his last girlfriend and she ended up being a cluster B chick that nearly wrecked things for him. Tried changing the locks on him, started creeping on his new prospects, and probably some other stuff he hasn't gone into. Technically she's still on the lease so if she was committed to it, she could probably still keep fucking with him. Not worth it.

I would second what inbocca is saying; its generally a really a bad idea to get involved with someone you live with or work very closely with. If things go south you really have no outs. Living with someone you are dating is a huge commitment to make even for people that have been together for a long time, and I've seen it go horribly wrong more than once.

If you are thinking about taking her as a lover you need to screen her much harder than you normally would. You say you are attracted to this girl, but how compatible are the two of you? Do you connect on a deep level? Do you make each other laugh? Would you rather spend time with her than other people you know completely disregarding the fact that she is attractive and you want to sleep with her? Is this a girl you could see yourself dating for a year or two? Make sure the answer to these questions is yes before you think about making a move
