Just realized that one of my fundamental assumptions about humans is that everyone is insecure about something, and if someone apparently isn't so, I can probably make them feel insecure anyway. Talk about a seducer's/salesman's mindset! Only perhaps the extremely rare person with a transcendental time orientation can be completely, unassailably secure. But even they probably have thumbscrews.

The underlying reason for insecurity is anxiety, and up to some point anxiety is good. Our ancestors used to live in wild nature for hundreds of thousands of years, perhaps millions. Imagine if they didn’t have anxiety and felt secure while living in close proximity of many predators. They had to be on high alert, they had to be ready to fight on the spot, they couldn’t fall into “secure” feelings because it would cost lives… They had to be anxious and insecure, anxiety was simply essential to life…

Today we live in relatively secure environment, there are no longer predators. Our outer cortex of the brain evolved much faster than our primitive brains, we have much higher IQ than our ancestors, but the anxiety is still there. This anxiety needs to be vented though, and if it can’t it causes a lot of problems – depression, OCD, phobias, social anxiety, anxiety from approaching girls…

Anxiety from approaching girls is actually quite understandable, our male ancestors had to be very careful to approach hot females, the chance of losing life was simply too high, thus most men did everything they could to avoid confrontation with stronger and smarter male…

Today we have laws, but the anxiety that stronger and smarter male will beat the sh*t out of you is always there, thus it is quite normal to feel insecure…

I read a really good quote once: "Don't compare your insides to other peoples' outsides"

I think most people do, causes a lot of problems in the world.
