There are three types of value:

1. Conversational value
2. Social value
3. Other type of value

It all falls under "What do they want from you?"
If they don't know, it won't be number 3, so it's either 1 or 2 or both.

Read "Bring energy to the party article" and "conversationalist" for more info.

Thanks for your reply mate!
So being a great conversationalist will allow me to provide conversational value and being the life of the party will help me provide social value? I'll work on those ASAP. And apart from being the life of the party, are there other ways to provide social value? Lastly what do you mean by other type of value? Any specific examples?

The third one is customary. If they want something from you, such as privileges due to your status, then that is third one. Or maybe approval because you're his girlfriend's brother or so. You won't have to worry about the third one because it's usually very specific.

And yes, work on conversation and being the energy and you should be good.
Build it, attract more people in with it, and it'll grow. Once it grows, your value will go up, which also makes it grow faster.
More social, makes more people come to you; social increasingly goes up and continues to bring more people in.
But it's not an easy road. Takes work, time and really putting yourself in many social situations, building reference points with people and learning how to interact with them. Don't let that discourage you. I'm also working on it myself, so you're not alone.

Keep going!
