So today, I was talking to this pretty cute girl for about 5-7 minutes before her boyfriend, who I perceived as some football player, came up from wherever he was prior to arriving into the conversation. I could tell he was trying to make a statement to me that she was with him cos he put his arm around her and kissed her and then stared at me. In my head I was like, "Dude... calm down." She kept looking and talking to me, ignoring her boyfriend, which I didn't quite know what to make of it. After another minute or two I left cos I felt guilt that I was talking to her still in front of him... I obviously didn't get her number, I just said, "Alright I gotta get going, I'll see you around." I strolled off to get some food and that was it. I doubt I'll see her again since my college is pretty big, but I just said it without even thinking. Anyways...

What am I suppose to say to leave the interaction on good terms with both of them when backing out. I said nothing to her boyfriend, but I wanted to leave a mark/good impression on her. Should I have said, "I'm guessing you two are together?" Then after one of them replies, I say, "Oh that's great, you two look good together. So who chose who?" carry on for a bit before leaving... I feel weird when that sort of stuff happens cos at my old school, it would happen when some girl who knew of me would call me over and start chatting with me and then her boyfriend is sitting right next to her with this pissed off look on his face and I'm thinking, "WTF? she called me over man... I don't even think she's attractive get over yourself." I know that sounds really stuck up... but in the moment that is what happens.

On top of this, if I approach and open a girl with a guy and find out that they are a pair, what should I say to excuse myself from the conversation? Again, same as before: do I compliment the two coming off as a cute couple or do I say something like, "I had to take the chance and find out" or do I tell the two to kiss in case they are lying?

Any and all help is appreciated. Take care all.
