First of all, I want to say that I know I really messed this up on my part after reading much of the advice on this site.
On the first day of class this semester, I sat down a few seats away from this girl. I asked her if I was in the right class and didn't pay much attention to her after that, but she scooted over and sat beside me. After two days, I really thought she liked me (and I wasn't actually sure I liked her at the time), so I asked her to lunch and she made an excuse. Then, a few days later, SHE asked me for my phone number and gave me hers. I stalled for a long time and didn't do anything other than study with her outside of class.
I asked her out on Valentines Day and she said yes, but the date went very poorly (at least according to this site). I disappeared for a week after that (I was going to end it), but I sat in the same row the next week and she came and sat beside me. For about a month up until this week, essentially nothing happened. Then, after Spring Break, I was eating in the dining hall with my friend and saw her and she locked eyes with me for literally 8 seconds and smiled, so I was like wow, maybe I'll go for it again. I went to a review session with her for three hours and it got really flirty during the last hour, so I was feeling pretty good.
Then, yesterday I asked her after class if she wanted to watch a movie that night. It definitely wasn't the best time to ask and it was slightly awkward (I know this site says to ask on a 'high point' but I didn't see that chance). Without pause, she said "I can't, I have to go to sleep early tonight" (and she was even smiling as she said it like she was happy I asked, wtf?). Granted, she did tell me before I asked that she was excited to get some rest that night after being sick. I still think it's a really lame excuse and that she probably just didn't want to. But... I just don't understand why it seems like she was interested and then the rejection.
