Alright, let me stop trolling.
I'm not going to argue the semantics of narcissism and NPD - as far as I know, it's being taken out of the DSM and the "subtypes" have too little research to show any importance as of now and it's a waste of time to argue sub-types.
Yes, you are correct that there is a difference between narcissism as a personality trait and NPD as a disorder. I generalized (moreso out of laziness than anything else) and you called me out which is funny since I've flat out pointed out to people (on these forums) that psychopathy and sociopathy are personality components everyone has. That being said though and, to the actual point, I first pointed out that what you quoted Rob on as "displaying narcissism" was wrong and the reason I said that is because narcissism as a personality trait ALWAYS displays some negative effect otherwise it isn't labeled as narcissism (again, why I don't want to argue semantics).
My reference to Kanye West and Oprah is indicative of what I was saying about Rob. Somebody said he can be a high achiever BECAUSE he has low self-esteem and feels a need to prove to himself/validate himself through success and that's not a narcissistic trait (hence me referencing Oprah). It's the difference between self-esteem and self-efficacy that I was trying to point out. But, this entire discussion got derailed over semantics when my original argument was that this comment
"bullshit. What you're talking about is narcissism. It's not low self-esteem. Quite the opposite in fact." is not grounded.
and how my insatiable drive was rooted in low self-esteem and the need to constantly prove to myself my own worth through my success and personal power amassed
This doesn't strike me as narcissistic, at all.
Also, I'd suggest you do some research on LSE achievers. A shit ton of research has been done on how/why people with low self esteem go on to become big successes. Self-esteem, confidence, and self-efficacy are all different.
Anyway, what I'm literally arguing is you saying what's above is narcissism and I'm saying it's not for a variety of reasons.
