First off I'd like to appologize if my english isn't perfect, english isn't my native language.
I've been reading around on this site, not necesarilly because I needed advice, but mostly because I was curious about the psychological reasonings "cliche pickup artist" had. I'm a cognitive neuropsychologist, I have a Ms. C degree in cognitive neuroscience, having done a psychology bachelor (with honours.) - I'm engaged, and have had quite a share of girlfriends. What I found very curious are things like people believing there is such a thing as "A female mind" - There isn't. And I'm going to explain to you why.
You see, people see men, and they see women, and they somehow assume the brain works differently, or at least that there are differences which are biological in the psychology. Most people assume this has to do with hormones, without really realizing how hormones work or what they are. See, there are two systems in the brain; The electrical system and the chemical system; The electrical system works through the neuron's action potential, while the chemical system works through hormones, directed by the amygdala. Many people think that men have testosterone, and women have estrogen, and this somehow affects who we are as a person. I'll explain why it doesn't.
First off, both men and women have estrogen and testosterone; There is a difference though, men have more testosterone while women have more estrogen. The funny part is that these hormones have two functions; The function in the body (the development of breasts, for example) and the function in the endoctrine system (the brain) are seperated. It is completely irrelevant what your blood levels of testosterone or estrogen are; these chemicals do not cross the blood-brain barrier. Let's say you inject yourself with a monster dose of estrogen or testosterone, nothing will happen psychologically (people often think steroid use directly affects the mind, it's been proven it doesn't, being mostly placebo, and triggered by the bodily changes; not by the steroid itself.)
The hormones in your brain are actually controlled there; In the brain. By conscious and unconscious processes; It depends on how you feel. You can clearly see this in scientific research of pre-transition transsexual brains; Even though genetically they're XX or XY, the hormone balance in the brain does not match this, altough the balance in the body does. In other words, men and women do not exist.
Of course, there are differences between men and women when you take a statistic average; But these come from society. We learn to be men or women; The stength of presence (how strongly you identify as male or female) of your gender is often a measure of how easily you are influenced. Thus, I would agree with most things said on this site; For example, that alpha males get more females. But this is an oversimplified thing to say. You could rather say; Dominant alpha's usually attract many submissives. This is true for both men and women; gender is irrelevant. A dominant woman will have hordes of submissive, weak "nice guys" attracted to her. We aren't "Wired" to be submissive or dominant based on our gender; We're wired to be a certain way because society's values.
It is true, however, that being dominant is a very good idea if you want to have many partners. However, just be careful to not adopt sexist attitudes with this; Not because of political correctness (fuck that, frankly) but because they're blatantly untrue. You should always have a logical reasoning on which you base your behaviour! Of course, if you're out to get laid, it's a very good strategy. I've always been quite dominant naturally (always extremely fixed on self improvement and getting what I want) - but in the end, I found out that I wouldn't be young forever. No matter how strong or assertive I was, sleeping around wouldn't last forever.
So I sought a worthy mate to settle down with; But what I found out was that I couldn't get one this way. See; A powerful, assertive person will never respect submissives. I needed a mate who was just assertive and dominant as I was. And when that time comes, most pick-up techniques and strategies will have to be modified, and you'll need a new paradigm. Remember this
