The summer is drawing to a close and I’m focusing on rebounding from a breakup. I live with my parents and take care of my grandparents, so I went for a walk to CVS to pick something up — also planning to approach any girls I saw.

First, I noticed a hot girl dressed in all black who looked like she might’ve just finished a shift as a waitress. I made eye contact with her while she was crossing the street, but it felt too intense and she went the other way.

Later, I saw two college-looking blondes sitting on a bench. One of them actually turned to look at me from across the distance.

I decided to approach:

Me: “Hey, sorry. Could I make a painting of you guys? I’m an artist.”

(The girls looked at each other for a long pause.)

Blonde 1: “Yes.”

Me: “Well, I’m not free right now, can I get your number?”

Blonde 2: “We’re actually leaving soon, sorry!”

Me: “Okay.”

In the moment, I interpreted it as an awkward rejection, but they may have literally been leaving for college soon. I definitely showed nervousness during the approach.

@politepilot,

Hey man, good job overcoming your approach anxiety to make the approach.

I recommend you try to go for 2+ minute interactions before going for the number close.

That way you give yourself some time to talk and banter and get the girl into you enough that she will want to meet.

Also, I know it is hard when starting out, but you want to try to avoid neo-direct or neo-direct-adjacent approaches like these where you open with something then immediately go for the number grab. They're extremely low odds approaches.

If you want an exercise for this, just encourage yourself to find something to talk about with girls for two minutes, then take their phone numbers. You will force yourself to figure out what to say during that 2 minute interaction window.
