As a mod I would have simply deleted the ad hominem posts, warned @Helanes, and let the overall discussion play out which is healthy for a forum like this. If someone arguing about approach to lay ratio is such an insult then I don't know why a forum like this exists in the first place. Clearly the guy was doing a lot of game and putting his own stats out there, and it would have been a good way to have some competing perspectives on what is realistic to expect with different methods and approaches.
I've heard the 1/30 estimation from guys such as Paul Janka, John Anthony, James Tusk it seems, and various allusions to similar stats from other guys I've listened to (note most of these guys are day gamers, I don't know if ratios are higher in night game but my understanding is that night game is more competitive and chaotic and therefore more difficult, I'm much more of a daygamer myself). So it's not a random value coming from someone with no clue.
At first glance 1/5 seems pretty high to me when you account for the mass of variables such as women with boyfriends who won't cheat, women who just don't like your type, logistical problems, cockblocks appearing out of nowhere, LMR, etc. I won't be the one to say that it's not possible but it'd have to be a very exceptional guy ticking pretty much every box under the sun and consistently at the top of his game.
Personally I'm not experienced enough to know for myself, also I'm way too sporadic, regularly stop for months and get rusty and have to grind a bit to get back in, and I don't keep track of anything, so I'm certainly open to the idea that there are people who are substantially more successful than the guys I mentioned. I would have liked to hear more from both sides of the equation so that I could learn something, and I'm sure a lot of other guys would too.
Obviously repeated bad behavior can't be tolerated but a bit of competition is good. I think it would be good if things didn't spiral into personal attacks and counterattacks so quickly on this place, this is a place first and foremost for learning, and the competition of ideas is necessary for that.
