What if you don't have the financial situation handled? Or your own place?
What could be your strengths in then?
I'd take a look at your hierarchy of needs on a holistic basis.
At 28 years old I think my focus would be on a 9-5 that afforded me a positive cashflow, and night classes to complete a bachelors degree.
TBH a job in the trades for 40 hours a week with health benefits, and retirement while expanding your marketability with business courses in the evening would do more for your overall success than sacrificing your prime working years with daytime classes, and student loan debt. I see my 31 year old single female friend doing this while working for county government. Achieving her Bachelors will allow her to move up as a paralegal, and her day job is flexible and she can be reimbursed for schooling costs. For 2 years she is going to not be able to go out on weeknights. That is the cost of achieving what she wants....It also is going to allow (maybe force)her to be more selective about who she dates, and gives her a built in time constraint.
I have a 23 year old retail employee making $18 an hour plus retirement and health bennies. He rides the commuter train to and from work. He is taking real estate classes in the evenings. He has not completed his bachelors degree. He is stacking money and will own a $500,000 home in the next 10 years. He has a 6 year long exclusive relationship going but is in a good position with women if that was not the case.
I have a 20 year old production employee making $23 per hour for 40 yrs a week in a union position. After work he does freelance work doing repairs for businesses around. They pay him cash and he restores old cars and sells them on the side as well. He takes his girlfriend out once a week. He's buying rental property that will cash flow his house payment.
Hey I LOVED my University years. It was good that I was not out in the big bad world for the 5 years after high school. I met my wife there. I learned a lot about socialization, and grew up. At 28 you can do better than college girls...If you are on the GI bill great. But build a solid cash flow and then work on your social situation.
My opinion NOW on college education is that it is only worthwhile IF you are going to progress to an advanced degree, Master's or above. My college cost only $18,000 per year including all living costs. Now a days that is $50,000+. It still took me 15 years to pay off my (and my wife's) student loans.
