Hey yall I was wondering what you guys think of watching sports and whether it's as much of a waste of time as playing videogames or watching movies and shows on streaming platforms.

I'm starting to get a gut feeling of yes. I'm into football and basketball and I have fun watching the NBA currently. I just can't help, but feel distracted and like i'm not using my time as well as I could be. I spend less time focusing on other productive stuff like reading self help books, learning new skills,or even cleaning my room. I think it's another comfort that weakens me and reduces my desire and hunger to grow as a man. I direct my focus into something that doesn't effect me when I could be working on my game.

I feel like I may have to give up on that or significantly cut it down to really live up to my full potential. I'm already passive as I am currently. The only nonpassive thing that I do is I get myself to go to the gym to lift weights, but that's it. What do you guys think?

It’s not really a question of whether watching sport is a waste of time, it’s more a question of whether you are where you want to be in life.

if you don’t have the success / direction / and all your shit where you want it then that needs focus.

So look at what you want to achieve, including success with women and see if you’re on track to get it.

I haven't been much of a sports watcher (or a sports guy in general) but the more I learn and understand things from a deeper perspective - the more interesting it gets. If you are like most of us - working on yourself mentally - you suddenly see sports from that perspective which can be quite interesting.

So it depends on how you look at it: Just for time to pass by or to see the game from a new perspective?

Sitting around all day watching sports, drinking beer and getting fat because you have nothing better to do definitely seems like a waste of time.

However, if you enjoy playing a sport as a hobby, it makes sense to watch how the pros play the game and helps you appreciate the sport.

I don't watch much sports any more, but my Dad is into it and I love hanging out with him and watching a game. My friends tend to be more nerdy or they're into different sports than me, so I don't get to watch it much in a social setting, but it always feels like a nice break when I do. The important distinction is that I'm busy building other things in my life so I don't feel much guilt taking a break. I think the OP issue is less that you're watching sports, and more that you're not pushing yourself enough in other areas of life.

It depends on what you get out of it. Playing video games or watching shows can be valuable if it helps you relax when you're normally stressed.

Yeah I definetly am not a slob. I work out,eat better food and cut my calorie intake and am in the best shape of my life. I was asking from the perspective of what would a high value man do or how does a high value man spend his time. There's probably no definite correct answerI realize nobody is perfect and active 100% of the time. Even high value men can struggle through periods of lethargicness, lazyness and poor time management. I just put a lot of pressure on myself to do everything right.

Yeah mostly to relax and enjoy myself. Those things probably aren't bad in and of itself I think the problem lies if that's all your day consists of. If you're working on yourself and building your life up there's no issue with doing those things to unwind and relax.

It depends on what you would do with that time.
If you’re watching sports/playing video games and it gets in the line of building yourself up... yes, it’s a waste of time.
If you use them only as way to relax from an otherwise productive week, I don’t see the problem.

Growing up, I never watched sports, then I got into a group of friends who are very much into NFL. Now I watch it because it helps me relate, socialize and join some activities.
I don’t think it’s a waste of time.

You shouldn’t be working 24/7, some slack is necessary to keep yourself from going sick.

A man that's super into watching sports is like a woman that's super into watching the Kardashians. It also isn't a good idea to get emotionally invested in something you have no control over, as I learned when my 2013 Broncos completely bungled their Super Bowl. I was furious, but quickly realized getting this mad over a silly professional sport that doesn't really affect my life was ridiculous. I dialed back my investment in pro sports hard after that, and am so glad I did.

That said, watching games with your buddies can be fun, and it's easier to connect with people if you know a little lingo for the sports they like. Just try to move your conversations past the uninspired "You catch the Jaguars game last night?" if you're trying to get closer to someone and not just making small talk.

Hmm interesting analogy. The nyknicks have started to win games and become the buzz of ny and i've gotten excited as a fan,but i'm just a spectator and I can't do shit about how they play so I shouldn't be too dissapointed if they lose or suck. I like sports because it can help to connect with others as well.

Yeah that sb loss was brutal and I was dissapointed in how they played.
And lol @ the jaguars. They're not a popular team so I can't imagine anyone talking about them. Although they are getting the most hyped college qb in years.

Yep it is.

Fandom is a worthless skill. Aside from professional commentators, no one can make any money from watching sports.
If you want to be able to use some knowledge as a conversation starter, watch 30 minutes of Sportscenter per night.
