Point is, don't waste the first week of college. get to know everyone. If anything it'll atleast help you become popular and you'll be invited to parties and shit where you can meet more girls.

This +1. Fraternities generally have a social advantage, but unless you are a member don't expect to go to their parties unless it is set up as a joint event with your residence hall.
How to host a Joint Mixer with a Female Resident hall:
Now if you are in a Residence hall, you can still do mixers with sororities or female Residence halls. Usually each one will have a social chair. Find out who is the social chairman for each female res. hall and sorority..
Get their names and cell #. Then follow up with a joint party/mixer plan. Set a solid date. Plan some icebreaker activities, have some hor d'oeuvres, Have a raffle for one cool prize and a bunch of white elephant gifts. Might take everyone pitching in a few bucks into the social fund.
Then either work with another person in your hall or take on the Social Chair role yourself to get everyone from each of the respective halls to a location for a mixer.
Use the rec room for a Dry function and if permitted have alcohol in the dorm rooms. Alcohol is not necessary, but if it is the common social currency, follow custom. But stay sober....you are networking here.
If inviting a female hall, get 3 or 4 guys together to personally give a party flyer to each of the rooms. Use this as an opportunity to introduce yourself to each resident. Give them a ticket for the raffle and have it relatively early in the night to get people there tell them the time of the raffle.
At the party, give each person a name tag so conversation is easier. Then use your god given ability to smile and converse to meet as many people as possible. You are creating a foundation here.
