Hey guys,
So a little off topic from direct pickup techniques.

I've experimented with meeting and taking dates to different types of places.
Personally, pickup aside, if I was going to get drinks myself I really like more upscale bars or lounges, I love their vibe. I love dressing up for the night and feeling great.

I always wonder though, what is the "manly" drink?
I grew up in Ireland so pretty much anywhere you go, you have a pint glass in front of you and you're all set.
Around here, any "normal" bar like Irish, sports bars, etc... most guys will clutch a bottle of their favorite (bud, heineken, corona, etc...)

But what about a more upscale place? I always seem to go, be presented with a nice menu and just have no idea what they will present me with.
Something looks good on paper... mmm... a little vodka, a mix of rum, tasty mixer... but is this going to be delivered to me in a nice clean glass on the rocks... or is this going to be colored pink and sevred with an umbrella and and side of pineapple?

Let's be honest, the later might be tasty but probably doesn't scream "Mr. Bond" to the girl sitting across from you.

What are some safe and nice "go to" drinks that any man should enjoy?
I'm always a little cagey about just going for a nice Irish Whiskey on the rocks right off the bat especially on a date.

You can never go wrong with beer. However, if it's fancy, you want a more expensive beer. Luckily, I just naturally prefer the "manlier" beers as people think of them. I love stouts, porters, etc. The darker the better. As long as the price of your beer matches the venue, then you shouldn't look less in value from your partner's perspective -- no matter what color the beer is.

I think Irish Whiskey on the rocks is fine too. As long as you sip it, you're not going to look bad on a first date. Straight or mixed whiskeys, rums, etc. should all be fine for "manliness." However, vodka is usually not; I guess because of martinis and mimosas. Therefore, I don't even suggest drinking it straight, unless you get a James Bond martini -- shaken of course.

However, hands down, the manliest of all drinks is a single malt scotch -- straight (no ice, not mixed with anything). Personally, I don't like scotch, so I never order it. But, this is by far the stereotypically manliest drink.

In truth, you should just order what you like. I usually ask the girl what she likes or what she's craving for. Then I base my decision around it because I like almost anything. If she orders a beer, I order a beer. If she orders a martini, I order a rum and ginger ale (or coke, etc.). If she orders a wine, I order a wine. If she orders a piña colada.... well, fuck it, I'm ordering a piña colada, and I don't care if I look like a walking pussy!

I either grab a beer (whatever's good on tap) or a Red Bull Vodka. But maybe that's just the party guy side in me talking!

There's no manlier drink on Earth than straight whiskey,(be it Scotch, Bourbon, Irish, or Canadian) or with (a few) rocks. However, whiskey (especially straight) is an acquired taste for 99% of people. If you like the image of being a well dressed whiskey drinker at any high class joint (like I know I do), ease yourself in with cheaper pours (J&B, Wild Turkey 81, Johnny Walker Red, Jameson) with ice and slowly but surely order them with less ice every time. I suggest starting with Jameson, then easing your way into Bourbon, then Scotch. I'm a Scotch man myself, and if you're ever splurging one night- give Johnny Walker Black Label a try. I've made people have a better understanding of whiskey (even start liking whiskey) with that pour; it's that good.

Beer is always solid too, and like someone else said, Stouts and Porters are a great way to go. I'd add IPA's (India Pale Ales) to that list, as they're about as bold, bitter, and hoppy as beers can get. Honestly though, most people are not going to be able to tell the difference by just looking at the color of the beers- so any beer will do when it comes to manly drinks.

Can't go wrong with Classic Martini's either, so long as it's actually Gin and Vermouth, none of that Vodka garbage haha.

Beer is often one of the best options. Might try a Red Bull Vodka sometime (Just turned of drinking age in my country a few months ago!).

Just a word of caution there. It's very easy to feel like they're not affecting you much, and you hardly taste the alcohol. Most of the bad things that have happened to me while drinking - the ones involving police, handcuffs, bar fights, being pickpocketed, losing things, sleeping with women I probably shouldn't have slept with - came while drinking Red Bull vodkas. Personally, I have no difficulty controlling my intake with whiskey, bourbon, beer, or anything else, but Red Bull vodkas are another beast altogether.

On the plus side, you will have some stories to tell, provided you don't get yourself killed...

Sounds like a toss of the die.

I personally prefer to start off with beer and move on to other things depending on the bartender since many places mix differently

Appreciate you looking out for me there Chase. I keep a track on my drinking and although many enjoy getting wasted I'd rather be in control. I might skip the Red Bulls for a while. ;)

I don't drink Vodka Red Bull either. Simply bad for you.

Straight up Double Scotch Whiskey for me.
Or a Gin & Tonic.

Dad gave me a Scotch and ale the other night. Enjoyed it. Can you ask for them at the pub?

Red wine is an aphrodisiac. Might make you look strange in certain venues but if you have your fundamentals handled women aren’t thinking “ew he’s a Middle Aged spinster”. I personally love champagne and red because it’s relatively easy on the body.
