A regular cold can cause these symptoms. Hiv symptoms are similare to those caused by many other viruses. Do not assume anything until you have been tested. The psychological aspects also plays a role here. Get tested asap and get it out of your head
If positive you can still live a normal life including sex life after 3 months of treatments.

If you test now your test will most likely be be reliable If it is an antigenic test (4th gen tests test for both antigen and antibodies).

The faster you test the faster you can get this out of your head if negative. The faster you test the faster you can get a treatment if positive. Only benefits here.

Thanks for the reassurance Teevster. Went to the clinic today. Was diagnosed with tonsillitis. Doctor gave me some antibiotics and something for the pain.

Then he did the Std testing. All of em at once. I was not prepared for the procedure! Definitely a special kind of experience.

Got another appointment on Monday. We'll see how it goes.

@Will_V , the possibility is definitely there. Gonna hit up a covid test center later on.

Thanks for the reassurance Teevster. Went to the clinic today. Was diagnosed with tonsillitis. Doctor gave me some antibiotics and something for the pain.

So it was a bacterial Tonsillitis? That is then most likely the cause of your current symptoms. I cannot of course rule out any other causes like HIV but keep in mind that symptoms of HIV tend to occur after 3-4 weeks (if they ever occur at all).

Symptoms of tonsillitis can be quite severe but it is not big deal if cured :) If that's all you have, then you will be fine (although you will suffer for a few days).

Did he tell you the cause of tonsillitis? Did he test for bacterial infection? He must have since he is giving you antibiotics. If he hasn't, then request a throat test. I would also test for mononucleosis. Do so on monday, you can get the results pretty quickly.

Then he did the Std testing. All of em at once. I was not prepared for the procedure! Definitely a special kind of experience.

Did you experience the "stick in the pipi" thing? That's the old school way of testing! Now they usually just ask for a urine sample. However keep in mind that the old school test is more accurate.

We are Wednesday today. Very likely, if you are in fact positive, you will most likely know before Monday. I am almost sure of that. If you don't hear anything within Friday evening (or Saturday evening if people work on Saturday), then you can most likely conclude you have nothing bad.

Keep us updated.

Let us know.

Speaking from experience, I would strongly recommend that you DO NOT take amoxicillin or any penicillin-based antibiotics UNTIL you have negative results from a mononucleosis test (and during the period in which mono may surface). Hopefully the doctor did not give you one of these?

This post is giving me not-so-good flashbacks because I had bacterial tonsillitis and mononucleosis simultaneously. Days after a lay, I had a terrible swelling of the tonsils/sore throat, fever/sweats, lymph node swelling, extreme fatigue, etc. Naturally, I was very concerned that it must have been an STD.

The doctor had diagnosed me with bacterial tonsillitis both from an exam and blood tests, and prescribed me Cefdinir. I took that for two weeks, but it didn’t clear up the infection and everything still felt awful.

So, I went back to doctor after that as things were starting to get even worse and was told as it was a bad infection, sometimes a longer dosage of antibiotics is necessary. I was prescribed a two-weeks dose of amoxicillin this time instead.

Well, I take the amoxicillin for a while. And then my lymph nodes start to become even bigger golf balls and my fever shoots up to absurd levels. Over the next few days, an ungodly red rash develops all over my body. I was thinking that maybe it was a (baaaaad) STD that didn’t have enough time to appear with the previous testing or I was allergic to the amoxicillin, so I go back to the doctor in the most miserable health I’ve ever been in.

They’re like hmmmmm, and do a mononucleosis test. Guess what, I’m positive!

Ooooooops, they say, because amoxicillin can sometimes cause a terrible rash when used in conjunction with mononucleosis.

They were treating the bacterial tonsillitis, but they didn’t consider that the possibility for mononucleosis to emerge (and yes, I gave them an account and timeline of my sexual activity). So yeah the bacterial tonsillitis came first, never healed, got worse again, and then the mononucleosis (and that FUCKING, COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY RASH) occurred in the following weeks. I must say that taking my final exams during this period while I was feeling like I was hit by a truck, could barely eat feeling like I had razors in my throat, and Benedryl smattered all over my body... that this was without a doubt among the worst experiences of my life.

I can tell you more about what happened after this (in short, the bacterial tonsillitis infections kept reoccurring and I eventually had to get my tonsils/adenoids removed), but the specific details may not really be relevant to you at this stage and I can give more info if it comes to it. Overall, I’m just urging you strongly to make sure that your doctors are good and on-top of-things to the best of your own judgement, be more risk-averse with your actions in the future, and become a very, well-informed patient (which Teevster has surely helped very much with here).

Hoping you get well as soon as possible.

This is one of the reasons I suggested a mono test - in addition to the fact that mono also causes the symptoms that he has listed.

2) Pretty hard for guys to get HIV from vaginal sex if she's not an intravenous drug user. Not impossible.

Depends if she is under treatment, if she has other STD's, and if you have any other STD's. It also depends on her viral load, which will be higher if she just got infected.

It is true that the transmission rate is low, but other factors could play a role. I was looking at the context to assess the risk and in general any sexual intercourse with a super red flag girl like this one requires testing. I am categorical about this.

Damn man, what a shitty scare. Thx for sharing your story.
To all the other guys reading this, just remember:

Sex with hookers = a commercial transaction

I personally know a couple of horror stories of guys trying to flip hookers into legit GFs and getting scammed hard. These never end well!
There is even a famous story of a Brazilian billionaire heir who got married with an ex-hooker and got shot and butchered after a discussion.

Hookers are there to be fucked and booted.
Like Jack Nicholson said: "I don't pay them for sex, I pay them to leave".

3) See point #1.

^ yeah oral bareback with a hooker fine, (extremely to 0 risk), but putting your dick bareback with a hooker is on my top list of retarded stuff i have read on pua forums...

- wait till the op is sitting there waiting for his std results, one of the worst feelings ever, i don't wish that feeling on my worst enemy...

Okay, time for an update, probably the final one:

First of all, thank you @Teevster for all your concern and help throughout all this. I don't have this often in my life so it's always a huge thing for me when someone takes care of me like that.

Next: no HIV baby! I tested negative! I feel like I escaped hell by the breath of my hair.
My urethra wasn't violated in vain :')

And yes, ultimately the diagnosis is:
Mononucleosis.

Well, I take the amoxicillin for a while. And then my lymph nodes start to become even bigger golf balls and my fever shoots up to absurd levels. @Lofty, you have described exactly what I have gone through this past week. Especially a few days ago I couldn't sleep or eat, every time I tried it felt like I was getting deep throated by 40 mandingos with barbed wire around their cocks. It drove me to tears.
Also a fkin rash and golf ball lymph nodes.

Then the head doctor came in while I was being diagnosed, did a blood test and said "Yep, mononucleosis". Changed my medication, gave me an IV drip for 3 days, and now I can eat and everything, and I feel better every day.

So in conclusion, thanks to everyone, especially Teevster and @Will_V, also Chase, for guiding me in what was possibly the most terrifying time of my life.

You are more than welcome. Sorry if we scared you, but it was for your own good - so that you get tested asap to be on the safe side.

Also I assume you will be more careful in the future. As you may have experienced, taking HIV-tests is not fun - especially the wait for the results!

I really suggest you take some time and do some REAL research on STD's and learn about them.

PS: you probably got mononucleosis from that prostitute! It is very contagious.

Next: no HIV baby! I tested negative! I feel like I escaped hell by the breath of my hair.

I am so happy to hear that!

And yes, ultimately the diagnosis is:
Mononucleosis.

Good thing we told you to test for that! We have been around the block and gone through all this. Been there done that :D

Well most people will get this crap at some point so, sooner or later you had to get it. It is annoying but no biggy. Make sure you stay the heck away from alcohol until you are cleared. Get some rest and eat healthy and you will get through it without any issue.

So in conclusion, thanks to everyone, especially Teevster and @Will_V, also Chase, for guiding me in what was possibly the most terrifying time of my life.

You are more than welcome. Happy it ended well.

Now careful in the future ok?
