Hey folks, does anyone have a process for the following common situation? I see a cute girl and want to do a direct opener on daytime cold approach, because I find the polarizing effect useful and frankly can't be dealing with the tiptoeing around of indirect any more, but: it's tough to find something to compliment... She's on her way back from the gym, her clothes are a mess, her hair is more or less as Nature left it, etc. What on Earth am I supposed to say? "You have such nice eyes"? Of course, not being fools, we men know that underneath she's hot enough to flash-fry an eggplant, but honestly, what can you plausibly say? I've been missing lots of potential approaches due to this dilemma...

At times like this, you don't have to open directly with a compliment, and lately, I've been adding a lot of openings to my tool belt, not just complimenting. Instead, I've been using Ricardus's "Are you single" opening, indirect openings, playful openings, situational openings. Work on adding non-compliment openings to your repertoire.

Thanks Zphix, sound advice as always. I might go for indirect-direct... "Is this Times Sq? ... Actually, I just wanted to say hi. Oh, you have a really lovely smile!"

There's something about the directness of Ricardus's tone that I really love, I might book a consultation with him one day once I get a bit more practical experience. That said, I've never yet experimented with his "Are you single?" opener, for the simple reason that I am, shall we say, not single myself :) I think this one needs a rock-solid process behind it, so that you have a comeback regardless of the response. I think I might find Ricardus's slightly softer variant: "Are you married?" a little easier to work with, in the beginning at least!
