One night recently I was approached by these two good looking girls. It wasn't long before I was asked "are you out for a reason?". I felt like saying "hell yeah, I am" but managed to pass it off a bit better than that.
I realised that one of these two, was taking the initiative to ask me the questions on behalf of the other (target), who was out looking to meet a guy. I think I got a few things right during the interaction, but the big mistake I made was that I was directing most of my answers at the the 'representative' rather than the 'target'.
I slagged her off a bit about needing her "bestie" to hold her hand to try meet new guys, and joked about that the 'representative' could be working for a dating agency with the way she was carrying on. I quickly stopped with the jokes in case I over did it. The target had been acting a bit shy, and ultimately I felt that I didn't have the momentum to move things forward. I messed up a bit in the end when I said "well, it was nice to meet you", as if I could afford to walk away. The representative said "we might bump into you before the night's out", and I kissed the target on the cheek before I left - which in itself contradicted my decision to leave them! I didn't see em later.
There's something about these situations that I haven't quite figured out. I think it's a situation where a beginner might think they're actually in with a shot. It is nice to get the female attention though, as it can give you more confidence to approach other girls. But other than that, these scenarios seem just kind of a tease.
