I'm currently working as a security guard in the retail sector. One thing I've noticed is that any time there's a complaint, or threat of a complaint about me (four times so far), it's always a woman.
Recently I was persuaded by this lady to be let into the store at closing time. I only get paid until closing. She said that she knew exactly what she wanted to get. A few minutes later I saw her wandering up and down the aisles taking her time. I reminded her that the store was closed (as I do with every customer), but I made the mistake of saying "I thought you said you knew exactly what you wanted". About a minute after this I bumped into her elsewhere in the store and she started repeatedly shouting at me "what's your name?". I refused to answer, and she started shouting the question towards staff, who also refused to answer. Later as I was leaving I saw her talking to one of the managers, obviously giving her sugar coated story. Could she not have just let it go, and have been grateful that she got in? And she was acting so nice earlier on.
Another time a lady arrived with her child at a minute after closing. When I stopped her just inside the door, she said "but my child ran out of the store crying". I said to her "that's unforunate, but tomorrow's another day". She replied "don't you dare talk down to me". I said "look we've our own lives to live to and staff have to get home". She argued back once again so I pretended that the tills shut off at 2 minutes past the hours. Of course as I was saying this, I knew that there were 1 or 2 customers going through the check outs. She turned away but she said "you'll be hearing from me". I thought it was over then and I exited the store to go home, but as she walked away she caught a glimpse of the customers inside (who probably entered 5 minutes ago) at the checkouts. One of these customers was her mother! If shed told me that at the beginning maybe I would have left her in! She ended up getting back in and asked the push over manager if she could buy something and he said yes. But when she was leaving she realised that she had came through the till after the time that I had said they shut off at! She started shouting "the tills didn't shut off, ha ha the tills didn't shut off" and it was then 4 minutes past the hour! Of course she wanted to make a complaint about the fact I lied!
And just the other night after there was an announcement of a shut down in my country, droves of people rushed down to our toy store to panic buy. Due to COVID 19, there was a huge queue (line) outside and only a certain amount of people were allowed in the store at a time. It got very messy managing the queue and there were a lot of demanding customers complaining that they weren't going to get in. After all my efforts to block the last few stubborn customers at the door after closing time, the push over manager left them in. Now both men and women had been difficult in the queue, but the one who wanted to make a complaint about me once they got inside was a female.
With the many people we deal with from day to day, we could often never guess whether or not there is a psycho side to them. In fact I'm almost certain that one woman faked a panic attack in order to get an exchange. There's also a good bit more female shoplifters than men!
Okay rant over!
