Hey guys.

For those who suffer from labial (oral) herpes:

Just wanted to let you know that, the old "1000/2000 mg a day of valcyclovir (do not take take acyclovir - it sucks) a day for a week for oral herpes is outdated.
It is much better to take 2000mg twice a day for only one day!

Source

Confirmed by my specialist in infectious diseases, who provided me the source (serious academic publication).

Yeah odd, because for example most docs here (as well as in my country of birth - both countries are in Europe) they always prescribed 1000 mg per day (2x 500g) for 7 days.

It wasn't until I talked with an infectious disease specialist that he changed it to 4000 mg for one day. And the effects are significantly better.

I've been taking Val every day since I got HSV-2 and haven't heard anything from any of my partners. I heard it can cause kidney damage to take it this long though, so I was considering lowering the dosage and switching to natural dietary remedies.

You can lower it to 1000 mg a day for genital herpes (remission dosage). If stil not outbreak you can lower it further down to 500 mg daily. If still no outbreak you may stop and take it only during periods where you are likely to get an outbreak (ill, stressed, tired, hungover etc)
